The first enduring cinema in Bangladesh, named Picture House, later it was renamed New Picture House and turned it again with new name as Shabistan. In 1947 there were only 80 cinemas in Bangladesh we have seen.Royal Bioscope company was organized to producing and exhibition first film at Calcutta in 1898. After the liberation between India and Pakistan in 1947 a milestone was established in area of Bengali future film.  The Mukh O Mukhosh was the first complete Bengali future film in 1956. It was the full sound made picture made by Abdul Jabbar Khan.
In 1957 East Pakistan Film Development Corporation (EPFDC) was established under the East Bengal Provincial Assembly. In 19-40 films were created throughout the 1960. It was continued and increased after independence of Bangladesh. Since 1979 throughout the year around 50 films were released. It was increased over 51 to 90 till 1990’s per year. After independence of Bangladesh was a produced first film name as Titash Ekti Nadir Naam (A River Called Titas) in 1973. It was directed by well-known director Ritwik Ghatak, whose icon in Bengali cinema is similar to Satyajit Ray and Mrinal Sen.
East Pakistan Film Development Corporation (EPFDC) was turned to Film Development Corporation (FDC) in independence of Bangladesh. It has faced many competition from many side such as overseas films, satellite TV, home video. Viewer has been dropped of Bangladeshi films. It was also criticized for producing low quality films where appeal is that violence and sex.  Zahir Raihan, Khan Ataur Rahman, Alamgir Kabir, Amjad Hussain, Gazi Majarul, Kazi Hayat, Sheikh Niyamat Ali, Humayun Ahmed , Morshedul Islam, Tanvir Mokammel, Tareque Masud are among those well-known directors in Bengali film. Although the greater part of the Bengali films made in Bangladesh are firmly commercial in nature. In 2003 Bangladeshi first film has been formally proposed for nominations for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. It was. Matir Moina (The Clay Bird).
After independence of Bangladesh we have grateful to our prominent directors and artist for their outstanding performance which made to memorable films for viewers. As follows; Mukh O Mukhosh, Kancher Deyal,Nawab Sirajuddowla, Sutarang, Hangar Nadi Grenade,Golapi Ekhan Treney, Megher Anek Rang, Alor Michhil,  Chhutir Ghanta, Shankha Nil Karagar, Aguner Parash Mani, Poka Makader Ghar Bashati, Nodir Naam Modhumoti, Dipu Number Two  Muktir Gaan (Song of Freedom),Matir Moina (The Clay Bird), etc.
